Coastal Navigation for Small Boats - Shorebased Nav (4 evenings)

Course Details

Location: Kilrush Digihub, Merchant's Quay, Kilrush, Co.Clare
Course Type: Shorebased. No water sessions.

The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely navigate a boat by day and by night in coastal waters with which they are familiar. It is intended as preparation for;
  • Irish Sailing Intermediate Powerboat Certificate (open powerboats)
  • Irish Sailing Advanced Powerboat Certificate (open powerboats)
  • Irish Sailing Advanced Sailing Certificate (sailing dinghies, keelboats or catamarans).
  • General Navigation Skills

Course Modules include:

  • Weather
  • Tide theory including tidal curves
  • Rules of the Road
  • Buoyage - Night and Day including Day Shapes and Sound Signals
  • Chartwork and passage planning
  • Use of GPS including Navionics
  • Safety on the Water

There are comprehensive course notes provided including homework course notes for self study.
